Chapter Making decision
This is the story about a boy who wishes to study abroad at
Holy Britannian Empire. Everything in this story is fictitious.
In June 2012, the boy was studying at Pink university which
is the top university in the land of fake smile. His life was the same as other
students’. It was the first semester of his last year at the university. That
semester, he had a subject called seminar, in which students have to present a
selected topic for 15 minutes. To welcome AEC (An Emergency
Crisis for who can’t speak English) in 2015, a student who presents in
English would get a bonus of 20 points. Free 20 points, why not? The boy
thought. His cute advisor helped him prepared his presentation and he found
that there were a lot of mistakes in his script. He did an excellent job in his
presentation. Professor Nipon said that he spoke English better than some of
students who studied in doctoral programme. The boy was proud of himself because
that was the second time that he heard professor Nipon praised someone. After
this, he knew that his cute advisor was more powerful than a little girl who was
always playing games in her office. He asked his cute advisor: How can you get
your English skill ? She said that, she had studied master and doctoral degrees
in Holy Britannian Empire for 5 years. Oh that was
it! The boy exclaimed. Two weeks after his seminar presentation, he was chosen
to be a representative of his major to compete with other students from other majors
in faculty of science. The best student would compete with student from other
faculties. There were only 5 place in the student exchange programme. He passed
his first round without any problem but he got a huge problem in the second
round. While waiting for his turn, he talked to other representatives. After
talking for a while, he found out that half of them studied in international
programme and the other half used to study abroad! After competition, he knew the result before they told him. The English
skill of students who studied abroad was a far cry from his. Question: Would
the boy have a chance to beat anyone who studied abroad when he graduated ? He
didn’t know the answer to that question but now the boy started collecting
money for studying aboard. Without financial support from his poor family, can
the boy reach the Holy
Britannian Empire by himself ?
